Laptop or Desktop?
Choosing whether to go with a laptop or Desktop can be tricky, as there are so many factors to take into account! The pandemic has made people realise how important having a device to work from at home is. Both devices have advantages and disadvantages, so we need to figure out what is most important to you and what fits your needs.
With many work meetings been remote and people working from home you may consider investing in a desktop as you have no need to move your device about, on the other hand COVID-19 is (fingers crossed) not going to be around forever, so you need to take into consideration future plans too.
First, let us talk about value for money. Although a tower desktop requires more components such as a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, they are typically cheaper especially if you already have some of the components. If we are comparing only the desktop to the laptop you can get more for your money. For the same money you will get a larger storage space and a higher/better performing device.
You also need to consider if something is wrong with your laptop or you accidently spill something on your laptop you may need to replace the whole thing, however with a desktop you may only break one component such as the keyboard which will be much cheaper and easier to replace.
Because of the pandemic we have all been working from home and pretty much not leaving the house except for some fresh air. Therefore, we have had no need to move our devices about. So having a desktop has not been a problem as meetings have been done remotely and any work has been from the comfort of our home.
As things are getting back to normal, we may need to consider the portability of our devices. Having a desktop completely eliminates any opportunity to take it out and about, whereas a laptop can be taken anywhere at any time. It may sound obvious, but you need to consider future needs!
If your home is now your office and you are not lucky enough to have a dedicated room for work, you want to be able to make it feel like HOME once the workday is over! If you have a desktop it can be tricky trying to hide it or move it about, and because there is multiple pieces of equipment it needs a desk so if you don’t have much space there could be a big issue. On the other hand, a laptop can be very easily stored somewhere out of the way and hidden from sight so your home can feel like home again when the clock strikes 5😊
